PORTRAITS!

·       IMAGE 1 = portrait type HEAD SHOT.
o   Paraphrased from Wikipedia “A portrait is the capture by means of photography of the likeness of a person, in which the face and expression is predominant. The objective is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is the person's face. A portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the camera. This means the persons face should take up a large portion of the picture.

·       IMAGE 2 = HEAD and SHOULDERS shot. Should include head, chest, and shoulders.
o   See page 144 in new book, Bruce Gilden Old Man at a Racetrack, Ireland, 1996 for an example.

·       IMAGE 3 = 3/4 of the body shot.  Should include ARMS and HANDS
o   See page 130 in new book, Dorothea Lange Woman of the High Plains, Childress County, 1938

·       IMAGE 4 = WHOLE BODY SHOT (with environment)
o   See page 131 in new book, Tina Barney “Mom, 1996”

·       IMAGE 5 = EXPERIMENT!  Try different camera angles and show us something unusual
