Assignment #12
Due 12/01 @9:00PM posted to your Tumblr
Documentation of Thanksgiving/Fall!!!
Post 5 images on your Tumblr that document or represent the holiday and/or the Fall season.
FINAL Project - PORTFOLIO
Over the break, please look through the images you have shot for our assignments so far (or exceptional photos you may have shot outside of class projects), and bring in 20 images to give to me for your final project. You will transfer these images to my computer, and I will edit them down to 10 that I will get printed for you. Please, no cell phone photos! These will look terrible when printed, as their resolution is not high enough to print well.

Assignment #11
PORTRAITS!
· IMAGE 1 = portrait type HEAD SHOT.
o Paraphrased from Wikipedia “A portrait is the capture by means of photography of the likeness of a person, in which the face and expression is predominant. The objective is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is the person's face. A portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the camera. This means the persons face should take up a large portion of the picture.
· IMAGE 2 = HEAD and SHOULDERS shot. Should include head, chest, and shoulders.
o See page 144 in new book, Bruce Gilden “Old Man at a Racetrack, Ireland, 1996” for an example.
· IMAGE 3 = 3/4 of the body shot. Should include ARMS and HANDS
o See page 130 in new book, Dorothea Lange “Woman of the High Plains, Childress County, 1938”
· IMAGE 4 = WHOLE BODY SHOT (with environment)
o See page 131 in new book, Tina Barney “Mom, 1996”

Due 11/10 @9:00PM posted to your Tumblr
Still Life!
Create still life set ups out of objects that have some meaning to you.
A still life is defined as (from http:// http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Still_life):
“A still life (plural still lifes) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on).”
Use the examples that you saw in class (Alejandra Laviada and Irving Penn) to guide you (links are posted on the blog)!
Think about how you are using light to shape your still life (Chapter 8 in the book). Also think about your background….is it a solid color, white, a fabric, or something else entirely? Does it have a texture?
